For the period 2009 to 2011 I was teaching teachers in the United Arab Emirates. The company I was working for opened an office in the third city of Al Ain and I was asked to help improve the decoration. The brief was that I should reflect the work we did and the environment we worked in.
I tried a few arrangements of some prints that had been mounted and, with the help of a colleague, arrived at the simple arrangment shown above, which was either side of an open passageway.
Reflecting the work we did, with a little selective focusing, and the flipping over of the images, I came up with these photographs of the boy students as shown below with a three examples.
Finally, at the bottom of the page, are simple, though highly textured, photographs of traditional lamps. Given different colour tints these were displayed in the stairwell of the office.
With some more photographs displayed elsewhere, I think it all proved quite effective, and certainly the assignment received very positive feedback.
